Home Latest Energy News By Tsvetana Paraskova - Nov 04, 2026, 6:30 AM CST Nigeria’s NNPC raised its oil and gas production in September from a month earlier as output was restarted at some oilfields, the state-owned oil and gas company said in its latest monthly report this week. NNPC’s total oil and gas production rose to 3.04 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), up from 3.01 million boepd in the previous month, amid slightly higher crude oil and natural gas production and flat condensate output, NNPC’s report showed. Revenues came in at $3.4 billion (4.608 trillion Nigerian naira), in line with the revenues for each month after March, when the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz crisis hiked international oil prices.
Despite the slight increase in production, largely attributable to the restart of production from the Obodo oilfield in mining license OML 150, output “remained constrained by unplanned downtime associated with facility reliability challenges, subsurface issues, flowline leaks, community protests, equipment failures, storage and tank-top constraints, and disruptions to export infrastructure,” NNPC said. Nigeria’s crude oil output alone jumped to a 15-month high in May, when production averaged 1.53 million barrels per day (bpd), the highest level since January 2025, as the African country now produces at its ceiling per the OPEC+ group’s agreements, after years of failing to do so due to sabotage, oil theft, and oil spills. Combined with 170,446 bpd of condensate output, Nigeria’s total crude and condensate production reached an 11-month high at 1.7 million bpd in May.
The last time Nigeria produced an average of more than 1.7 million bpd of crude and condensate for a full month was in July 2025. Nigeria has struggled to pump to its OPEC+ quota in recent years as sabotage often led to force majeure at major export streams. However, with a recent crackdown on oil theft and sabotage in the Niger Delta, Nigeria has managed to increase crude production and aims for further growth by 2030.
NNPC is set to increase oil production to 2 million bpd over the next two years, its executive vice president for upstream, Udy Ntia, said in November 2025.
